The second half of the meeting will be sharing what we have chosen to read for our version of Canada Reads, starting in October with P.E.I, committing to reading any fiction or non-fiction book about P.E.I., hopefully by a P.E.I based author. After discussion in October, we will share what book(s) each of us have selected for November’s meeting on Newfoundland and Labrador. November we will share what we have learned, and hopefully come prepared with our choice of what we will be reading about Nova Scotia for the next meeting, working our way across the country. The LHWL is currently running a study which examines older adults' preparedness for coping with extreme heat (i.e., COPE). As part of the study, they are conducting community information sessions to disseminate knowledge pertaining to heat risk, coping strategies and resources, as well as information on participating in our COPE study. Also, we will be providing the basics to craft your own summer heat kit to put to good use what you will learn FOR FREE!

She will share her journey through grief and loss after the death last year of her husband, Ross. Bring your journals and your pens! After the reading she will do a writing exercise with us.
Susan Alexander’s poems have appeared in Canadian and international anthologies and literary magazines, such as The Southern Review, Pangyrus, Arc and Grain. Her most recent publication is Berberitzen with Raven Chapbooks (2024). She is the author of two full collections, Nothing You Can Carry (2020) and The Dance Floor Tilts (2017) with Thistledown Press. Her poetry has won multiple awards, including the 2022 Vancouver’s City Poem Price. Sha has hosted poetry readings and panels for the federation of BC Writers and Victoria’s Festival of Writers. Susan lives on Nexwlelexm/Bowen Island, the traditional and unceded territory of the Squamish people.
